Reviews
My two friends and I went for a meal in the
Griffin in Oswestry, we have been going there
for years and have never been disappointed it
used to have a wide variety of home cooked
food on the menu also a variety of vegetarian
options however that has now been replaced by
a much shorter and bland menu, when we
inquired we discovered it had changed hands,
we decided to give it a chance but never
again, please read my review so that you to
will not have to endure the awful experience
we did.
The first problem was we had to wait 45
minutes for our meal's to arrive, we were
told by the waiter the chef had run out of
cream and had to go to get some more, when
our meals did eventually arrive with no
apology for the delay there was a hair in one
meal, absolutely disgusting! another meal was
cold and the broccoli was undercooked and my
meal was advertised with two eggs however
arrived with one egg, when I asked where the
other egg was I was told I had to ask if I
wanted a second egg although it was
advertised on the menu as a two egg meal with
peas, gammon and chips also the the service
was lapse and haphazard the response I
received was condescending when I asked about
my the egg situation.
There was a dog constantly barking from
behind a door which led up to some stairs
preferably to the accommodation they have
advertised.
We met another couple who also had to wait
over 40 minutes for their meal. We were not
offered any refreshments on the house as an
apology for the delay and never received an
apology for the terrible food or service. It
was a terrible experience.
There used to be a roaring fire in the
Griffin it is no longer (As seen on the web
page) that is an old photo and now the
fireplace just bare, once there was a pool
table which has since been removed.
The Griffin in Oswestry would be best to be
avoided if you are looking for hygienic food
with a prompt service, it leaves a lot to be
desired.
I stayed at The Griffin whilst passing through, I must say that the service and food was great, the atmosphere and the local customers where friendly and the music was by way of an open mic night. I will be returning if in the area again. I was disappointed to see negative reviews, but maybe disgruntled local business competition, but from my experience everything was very good. :)
